In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes – Benjamin Franklin

Not an exciting topic, unless your field of study is Tax Law or Accounting, but taxes are a certainty in life. With students and clubs at SFA and in the community, knowing whether your organization is tax exempt or not can be very confusing.

Let’s simplify things. If your group has ordered items and an educational institution (SFA, NISD, etc.) is paying for your shirts, then no sales tax is paid. If you are paying with a club check, credit card or cash, the sale is taxable and we are responsible for collecting and paying those taxes to the State of Texas. If you are part of a club or group, such as a fraternity or sorority, 99 times out of 100 your group is not tax exempt.

Exempt organizations need to sign a Tax Exemption Certificate on a yearly basis for us to keep on file in order to receive sales tax exemptions on invoices.

This is definitely a very simplified and watered down explanation, but hopefully, it will help you a little bit regarding if your purchases are tax exempt or not.

Please email us at with any questions you may have regarding sales tax or anything else. We are happy to help in any way we can.
